3. Encourage Professional Learning

Depending on the degree of staff development and educational experiences of your faculty, the Leadership Team may need to be proactive in providing copies of articles or resources for members of the team. It is important that new learning be part of the change process.

There are several excellent resources to support professional learning:

  • The National Staff Development Council website, in conjunction with the Eisenhower Foundation offers articles and assistance in navigating school improvement through the By Your Own Design on-line and CD program.
    Visit website: www.nsdc.org
  • The Council for Educational Change Accelerated School Administrator Program website offers several on-line learning modules available for viewing and program enrollment.
    Visit website: www.changeeducation.org
  • Classroom Instruction That Works: Research-Based Strategies for Increasing Student Achievement by Robert Marzano, Debra Pickering, and Jane Pollock. ASCD (2001) identifies nine teaching strategies that have proven to be effective in increasing student achievement and provides effective ways to implement these strategies.
