2. Devote Interview Time for Reflecting on Professional Learning Plans

The Professional Learning Plan is a summative document that calls upon teachers to reflect on their activities over the course of the year, link their personal professional goals to school-wide goals, and develop an action plan for the coming year. Team leaders should be familiar with the process and allocate time for team members to link personal goals to schoolwide goals. In effective schools:

  • every teacher is interviewed regarding his/her plan. (Interviews need not be lengthy, especially if plans have been discussed at team meetings.)
  • department and grade level leaders, as well as all administrators, assist in the end-of-the-year interview process.
  • each person's signature is required, signifying the importance of the document.
